“In Focus Okeechobee” The Tomlin’s
Our largest exhibit to date “In Focus Okeechobee” is an exhibit of the phenomenal photography of Andrew and Joanie Tomlin. Originally from Chicago, they have been in Florida residents since 2006. In 2017 they retired from the corporate world and moved to Okeechobee. The Tomlins are mostly known as nature photographers.
If you have seen their work, you know they have a love for nature photography. Their exhibit “In Focus Okeechobee” contains a lot of local wildlife as well as several local landmarks. In fact, they will be exhibiting the last know pictures of the historic Desert Inn in Yeehaw Junction. As many of you know, the Desert Inn was lost in a horrific accident, but just by chance, less than a week before the accident that destroyed the National Landmark they were passing by from an out of town photo outing and decided to stop and commemorate it in their photography.
Their love of photography long before the term ‘Blog” was used. Andy and Joanie were traveling the world and writing trip reports to share with family and friends. They eventually discovered a passion for nature and wildlife photography. Between them they have traveled to six continents and hope to visit their 7th Australia sometime in the next two years.
When not traveling they love to visit nature hotspots around Okeechobee county and consider Central Florida to be a “Best Kept Secret.” Wanting to share their passion they founded the Okeechobee Nature Photographers Facebook page, a place to showcase the beauty of this area. Currently over 500 members share nature and wildlife images using cellphones to high end DSLR cameras.
Their work has been published in several magazines and won multiple awards. They currently collaborate with the “cattleman” thee magazine of the Texas Cattle Ranchers Association. Joanie is also an avid scuba diver who enjoys the challenges of shooting underwater.
